Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of my father’s passing away. In many respects it was an emotional day as I dwelt on the man that he was. I was specifically reminded of his amazing ability to always be himself as I encountered my 13 year old son and his four friends, after a sleepover when they were tired. It was tempting to try and fit in and appeal to these young teenagers, but the cast iron confidence “to be oneself” was so impressed upon me by my dad, that I ended up honouring the old boy by behaving in a totally natural manner. His mantra was always to be “oneself”! We owe it to our children to always be ourselves.
